Performance Space 122 is a multi-disciplinary arts center in New York City dedicated to finding, developing and presenting new artistic creations from a diversity of cultures and points of view. PS 122 provides emerging and mid-career artists an environment that encourages exploration, innovation and risk-taking.

A biannual mini-festival of performance, dance, music, film/video,
installation and general mayhem, Avant-Garde-Arama was the first
continually programmed event at PS122. AGA continues to offer artists

One World, One People, an exhibit by renowned photographer Arnold Newman (1918 - 2006), is a culmination of portraits he made of significant Jewish individuals over the course of his career. Spanning six decades of work, from the early 1940's to the present, this collection contains public figures, from artists to entertainers, to philosophers and politicians. Those displayed in the exhibit include: David Ben-Gurion, Leonard Bernstein, Otto Frank, Golda Meir, and Isaac Stern. In total, there will be fifty photographs on display.

Arnold Newman is regarded as one of the most dynamic American photographers. The exhibit provides visitors with a unique opportunity to view a monumental body of work that places the most influential Jewish leaders of the 20th century in their own environments. While each portrait by Arnold Newman reveals its subject's personality in a way no words on paper ever could, at heart, they are simply fascinating works of photographic art. This exhibit will be the first chance to see Arnold Newman's work in Portland since his death in June, 2006.

Sat. Nov. 18th, 8pm at the Portland Art Center

Call for Submissions, deadline Nov. 1st

Since 2003, FO A RM magazine has been publishing
intruiguing, interdisciplinary collections of
experimental thought on topics such as "Utility" and
"Topography". Now, "Autonomy", a special sound-art
issue, brings together an international group of
artists, writers and composers, with an amazing
80-minute CD of sound and music.

To celebrate, we are presenting the FO A RM Festival
of Sound & Video at the Portland Art Center. Featuring
critically acclaimed electro-acoustic composer Olivia
Block, local avant-folk accordionist Luc, and ethereal
noise trio Borborygmus (Jonathan Sielaff/David
Hirvonen/Jean-Paul Jenkins), along with a screening of
abstract video curated by Morgan Currie and an ongoing
barrage of video installations, ranging from the
visual and conceptual to the non-linear and
fragmentary.
